The project
Created in 2018, E-SIGNA program, supported by the DIM STNC and the French National Research Agency (ANR), brings together three projects concerning the medieval French and Europe emblematic, developed independently but complementary from 2012 and associated with three databases, already available online : ArmmA, dedicated to the monumental heraldry produced in France in the 12th-16th centuries (https://armma.saprat.fr/) ; DEVISE, dedicated to the European badges and emblems (https://devise.saprat.fr/) ; SIGILLA, collecting the seals preserved French public and private collections (http://www.sigilla.org/). E-SIGNA combine the rigor of the erudite knowledge with the heuristic and communication tools offered by the new technologies, and proposes to revisit, with method and perspective, those objects overrepresented in the all European countries in the Middle Ages and Early modern period but nevertheless largely neglected today : the coats of arms, the badges, the seals. With the creation of a new web portal, E-SIGNA aims to organise, harmonise, and make usable the information collected by the different databases and to share it with other complementary research projects on medieval art, culture, society.
